Releases

5.13.0

Backgammon

Highlights

  • Adds Backgammon, the most requested game left on the list: the classic race against the computer with the full rules of a single game. Roll, tap a checker and a dot to move it, hit a lone checker to send it to the bar, bring everyone home and bear off first. Gammons and backgammons are called, Easy, Medium and Hard play with growing care (Hard rolls every one of your replies before it moves), Undo takes back a checker or your whole last turn, an unfinished game is saved on this device, and your win-loss record is kept for each level

5.12.0

Snake game modes, and a polish pass

Highlights

  • Snake has game modes: Borderless lets the snake pass through one edge and come back on the other, Walls drops a stone on the board for every apple you eat, and Portal puts out two linked apples — eat one and the snake comes out of the other
  • Each Snake mode keeps its own best score for every difficulty; the online top 10 still counts Classic runs
  • Snake's modes and board size are now picked from cards and a Settings panel, and the board's frame shows whether its edges are solid or open
  • Snake now waits for your first arrow, swipe or tap after Start, with arrows around its head showing where it can go, instead of setting off on its own
  • Word Guess, Quad Words and Phrase Guess now say why a guess was turned away — "Not enough letters", "Not in word list", or in hard mode the hint you missed, like "2nd letter must be A"
  • Solitaire now says why a move was refused instead of silently dropping your pick, and screen readers hear each card's name and pile
  • Nonograms: dragging paints one state along the line instead of flipping cells back and forth, a fill drag no longer wipes your crosses, and fingers can drag too. Arrow keys move around the board, Enter or Space marks, and X switches Fill / Cross
  • Memory Match keeps your best score for each board size and tells you when you beat it
  • Opening Settings in Floppy Bird, Starfall, Cube Dash, Hop Kingdom and Sky Jumper now pauses the run, so nothing hits you behind the panel
  • Minesweeper keeps the 30-wide Hard board for wider screens, where its cells are big enough to tap
  • Puzzle clocks in Sudoku, Minesweeper, Nonograms, Kakuro, Akari, Nurikabe, Slitherlink, Hashiwokakero, Queen Zones, Mini Crossword, Memory Match, Number Path and Hex now stop while you're in another tab, like the rest of the puzzles already did
  • Recall, Number Memory and Color Sequence keep a Play again button on the board after a lost run
  • Word Ladder now celebrates a solved ladder, and Chimp Test, Recall and Color Sequence celebrate a new best like Number Memory does
  • On phones, the on-screen keyboard or number pad in Word Guess, Quad Words, Phrase Guess, Cryptogram, Hangman, Word Ladder, Emoji Quiz, Sudoku, Kakuro, Calcudoku and Number Memory now stays at the bottom of the screen, so you can play without scrolling down to the keys

Fixes

  • Fixes Sudoku leaving cells red after you erased the digit they clashed with, or a hint replaced it
  • Fixes Memory Match starting the clock on an empty board when you restarted during the memorise preview
  • Fixes Chimp Test leaving no way to start again after closing the end-of-run window
  • Fixes the arrow keys and Space being held by Falling Blocks, Starfall, Cube Dash, Hop Kingdom and Sling Monkey before a game started, so the page couldn't scroll by keyboard
  • Fixes Enter or Space on a focused button restarting Falling Blocks, Floppy Bird or Starfall instead of pressing the button
  • Brick Breaker now pauses when you switch tabs, so coming back doesn't cost a life
  • Cube Dash locks the track picker mid-run, so a stray tap can't throw a run away
  • Starfall's header shows the run you're flying, not the setup waiting for your next one, and its screen-shake and hitbox toggles apply straight away
  • Sudoku, Minesweeper, Mini Crossword and Memory Match boards no longer redraw every cell each frame while the clock runs
  • Fixes a physical Enter in Word Guess typing the last on-screen letter you tapped onto the next row, and Enter on a button you reached with Tab in Quad Words or Phrase Guess submitting a guess instead of pressing it
  • Fixes Marble Shooter starting a new game when you pressed Space to scroll the page after a game, and Survivors, Marble Shooter and Kakuro holding the arrow keys outside a game
  • Fixes Enter on a focused button restarting Four in a Row or Snake, and a clicked Word Groups tile toggling again on Enter
  • Opening Settings in Brick Breaker and Survivors now pauses the run too
  • Kakuro, Star Battle, Sun and Moon and Queen Zones explain how to play in the same words on the board, in the how-it-works steps and in the FAQ

5.11.0

Chess and Sea Battle

Highlights

  • Adds Chess, the most requested game: the full game against the computer, with castling, en passant and promotion to the piece you pick. Easy, Medium and Hard look further ahead each step up, Take back undoes your last move, an unfinished game is saved on this device, and your win-loss-draw record is kept for each level
  • Adds Sea Battle, the game of hidden fleets: find and sink five enemy ships one shot at a time before the computer sinks yours. The water round a sunk ship is marked for you, Shuffle fleet re-deals your ships until your first shot, and your fewest-shots win is kept for each level
  • Gomoku is now Five in a Row, and gains a Captures rule: flank exactly two of the computer's stones to take them, and win with a line of five or your fifth captured pair. Your old record carries over to Classic, and old links still work

5.10.1

Kid-friendly word games

Highlights

  • Word Guess, Quad Words and Letter Swap no longer use mature words as answers, so they're safe for younger players. Thanks to the player who suggested it
  • Word Guess challenge links can't use those words either, and slurs and swear words are no longer accepted as guesses

5.10.0

Hangman

Highlights

  • Adds Hangman, the classic word-guessing game: find the hidden word one letter at a time, with its category as a clue, before the figure is drawn. Easy gives you ten misses, Medium eight and Hard six, Hint reveals a letter for the price of one miss, and your win streak is kept on this device

5.9.1

Harder games across the arcade

Highlights

  • Sling Monkey is harder at every difficulty: pegs sit further apart, moving and crumbling pegs, blades and sweepers turn up sooner, and crumbling pegs give way after about a second
  • Floppy Bird now ramps up as you go: the gaps narrow, the pipes speed up and they bunch closer together
  • The Paddle Ball opponent reads where the ball will land on Medium and Hard, so edge shots no longer beat it every time
  • Block Fit hands out bigger, awkward pieces as your score climbs
  • aa adds pins and obstacles every few rounds, and Medium now flips direction too
  • Snake on Hard plays on a tighter 18×18 board and keeps speeding up for longer
  • Sky Jumper, Brick Breaker, Marble Shooter, Bubble Shooter, Cube Dash, Starfall, Survivors and Falling Blocks reach their toughest pace sooner or push it further
  • Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe makes far fewer slips on Medium and Hard
  • Number Memory shows each digit for less time, and the big Find the Pair board gets a shorter peek
  • Harder puzzles: Akari has fewer walls on Medium and Hard, Tents and Trees has more trees, Shikaku Hard is 10×10 with bigger rectangles, Untangle Hard has more dots, and Water Sort Hard leaves just one empty tube

Fixes

  • Akari Medium and Hard puzzles now load much faster
